Kalamaja Days 2024 will take place on Saturday, May 18th and Sunday, May 19th.

Kalamaja Days is returning to its roots this year. At the beginning of the year, public brainstorming sessions took place in Kalamaja Museum, where local people, institutions and associations participated. The future of Kalamaja Days was under discussion, and it was there that it was decided to go back to its roots and make the 14th community festival happen only with the people and companies of Kalamaja.

This year, we invite the people, companies and organizations of Kalamaja to participate and contribute to Kalamaja Days. Local people are expected to organize events – either a workshop, gig, exhibition, photo and/or drawing competition or some other engaging activity. We offer an opportunity for everyone to present themselves and their activities as part of the festival in order to develop and keep the spirit of the community.

Kalamaja Days is a no alcohol and apolitical community festival aimed at families. It is organized by local people in order to create and maintain good relationships within the community, to engage with the neighbours, to strengthen community spirit and make the local area more pleasant and a safer environment to live and work in.This year, there will be no external performers and no street fair, but instead – the focus is on local performers and local gatherings.

On Saturday, May 18th, exciting events are happening all over Kalamaja.

In the court-yard of Teoteater (the birth-place of the Kalamaja Days), there are exciting activities happening for everyone. In Kalma Park, the fairs ‘Kalamaja Krempel’ and ‘Lelulaat’ (for kids) take place. In addition, we invite the older community to create a fair for themselves too!

Kalamaja Museum and Kalamaja Library are buzzing with activities, Kalamaja School and Gustav Adolf Gymnasium both welcome visitors to come explore their court yards. You can also enjoy a varied cultural program on the renovated Vana-Kalamaja square. In the evening, the highlight will be a traditional long table party, where everyone is welcome to come join with their own food and drink!

On Sunday, May 19, courtyard cafes and courtyard fairs will be open.

Local people can sell their products, services and entertain in their own garden space. There will be the traditional Children’s Race and a bus excursion organized by the NGO Meie Kalamaja, which will take people with mobility issues around Kalamaja.

The detailed program will be published by mid-May on the website www.kalamajapaevad.ee and you can keep up to date with what’s happening on FB page: www.facebook.com/kalamajapaevad

Visitors of all ages and from all over Estonia (and abroad!) are expected to take part in this vibrant weekend. Come see for yourself the ever-changing Kalamaja – where the old, close to nature, laid back atmosphere meets a new and progressing Kalamaja vibe!
